What is the Synthesys MCP server?
MCP, short for Model Context Protocol, is the open standard AI assistants use to call outside tools. The Synthesys MCP server plugs the Synthesys Video Agent into that standard. Once it's connected, Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or your own agent can browse video templates, check your credits, plan a video, get a price and build it, all from a normal chat.
It runs on your Synthesys account. You won't need a second subscription, and nothing lives outside the app: every video your assistant makes shows up as a regular project you can open, edit and download.

Tools that can't open a sign in window will use the same MCP URL with an API key instead. You'll create keys in Synthesys under Manage Account, API keys. Each one is shown once and can be revoked at any time.
A key only ever acts on your own account, inside the same daily limit as everything else.

What is the Synthesys MCP server?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the open standard that lets AI assistants use outside tools. The Synthesys MCP server gives Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Claude Code, Codex or your own agent eight tools for browsing templates, checking credits and making videos from chat. It runs on your Synthesys account, so it uses the same projects and the same credits as the web app.
When does the Synthesys MCP server launch?
Soon. We are running the final tests with Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor now. When it goes live, this page will switch to step by step setup for each app. If you create a Synthesys account today, it will work with MCP from launch day with nothing extra to set up.
Will I need to install anything?
No. There is nothing to download or run on your computer. You add one Synthesys MCP URL to your assistant, sign in with your Synthesys account, and the tools show up in your chats.
Will I need an API key?
Not for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or Codex. You sign in with your Synthesys account and the tools act as you. API keys are only for automations that can't open a sign in window, like n8n, scripts or CI. You will create those in Synthesys under Manage Account, API keys, and you can revoke one at any time.
How much will it cost?
The same as making the video in the app. It spends from the same credit balance at the same prices, where 100 credits equal $1. There is no separate MCP plan. Your assistant can check your balance and the price list at any time, and those checks are free.
Is it safe to let an AI assistant spend my credits?
That is what the server is built around. A full video can't be paid for in one step: your assistant gets a quote first and nothing is charged until you confirm. Short clips start straight away and state their approximate cost up front, and recreating an ad costs 10 credits for the analysis. On top of that, connected apps have a daily limit of 5,000 credits ($50), so a runaway agent can't drain your balance.
How long does a video take?
Checking templates or credits takes about 2 seconds. A quote takes 30 to 90 seconds, a single clip about 8 to 13 minutes and a full production 5 to 20 minutes. Your assistant checks on progress by itself, and checking is free, so you can carry on with other work in the meantime.
Where do the videos go?
Into your Synthesys account. Every video made from chat is a normal project you can open, edit, download or reuse in the web app, next to everything you made there directly.
Which apps will it work with?
Claude on the web and desktop, ChatGPT in developer mode, Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, and any other app that can connect to a remote MCP server over Streamable HTTP, such as Windsurf or VS Code.
