Disclosure: Synthesys makes a competing AI video tool, and its Studio runs Seedance but not Kling's video models. This comparison uses published information from ByteDance, BytePlus and Kling, plus public leaderboards and other people's tests, checked on 1 October 2026. We haven't run our own side-by-side test yet.

Title card reading Seedance vs Kling, which to use for ads and short films, with key specs for Seedance 2.0 and 2.5 and Kling 3.0 and 4.0

Seedance vs Kling is a moving target. Most comparisons you'll find test Seedance 2.0 against Kling 3.0. Since then, ByteDance shipped Seedance 2.5, and Kling announced Kling 4.0 for October. This post compares what you can use today, from the makers' own pages.

Most people ask which model is best. The better question is what the clip has to do: run 30 seconds, speak Hindi, or fill a 4K screen.

What is the difference between Seedance and Kling?

Seedance is ByteDance's family of video models, and Kling is Kuaishou's. Both make clips with sound from text, images and reference files. Seedance leans on long clips and many reference files. Kling leans on 4K output, shot-by-shot control and a lower price per second on its API.

These are the current models:

  1. Seedance 2.0, launched in February 2026, with cheaper Fast and Mini versions on BytePlus.
  2. Seedance 2.5, launched on 31 July 2026 for clips up to 30 seconds. Its API is now live on BytePlus ModelArk.
  3. Kling 3.0 and 3.0 Omni, fully rolled out on 31 January 2026. Native 4K arrived on 23 April, and the faster Kling 3.0 Turbo on 17 June.
  4. Kling 4.0, which Kling says will launch officially in October. Kling 4.0 Flash opened early to Ultra yearly subscribers on 28 September.

How do Seedance and Kling compare on paper?

On published specs, Seedance 2.5 makes the longest clips today and takes the most reference files. Kling 3.0 offers native 4K and per-shot control, and its API costs less per second at 1080p. Kling 4.0 closes the length gap at 30 seconds once it fully launches.

Which makes longer clips?

Seedance 2.5 does today: up to 30 seconds per run, and it can extend a clip in more rounds. Seedance 2.0 and Kling 3.0 both stop at 15 seconds. Kling 4.0 lists 3 to 30 seconds, but Kling says it launches fully in October. Its 2-minute extension is marked "coming soon".

ByteDance says 2.5 keeps characters, scenes and pacing consistent across extensions. It also admits room for improvement in complex motion and scenes with several people. Kling 4.0 Flash, the early-access version, stops at 20 seconds and 720p.

For a 2-minute explainer, you'd plan scenes rather than stretch one clip. Our guide to long AI videos without stitching 8-second clips covers that.

Which is better for 4K and big screens?

Kling, on published specs. Kling 3.0 has made native 4K since April, and its API charges $0.42 a second at 4K. Seedance 2.0 also reaches 4K through BytePlus's API, at an estimated $0.78 a second. Seedance 2.5 tops out at 1080p, though in 10-bit color.

In Kling's app, the 4K mode costs 30 credits a second. Kling's plans page lists 1080p and 4K on paid plans only. Kling 4.0 adds 10-bit HDR at 1080p and 4K, which Kling marks as coming soon.

Which follows references and keeps characters the same?

Seedance 2.5 takes the most files: up to 30 images, 10 videos and 10 audio clips in one run. Kling 4.0 takes up to 15 files and 10 keyframes. Kling 3.0 Omni can build a character from a 3 to 8 second video, voice included.

Kling's Element Library saves a character once for reuse, which suits a recurring presenter or product. Seedance's larger file count suits one complex scene with many parts.

Which handles dialogue and other languages?

Both make sound with the picture, including dialogue and lip sync. Seedance 2.5 lists 11 languages, including Arabic, Thai, Indonesian and Vietnamese. Kling 3.0 lists five, plus regional accents. Kling 4.0 adds Portuguese, German, French and Hindi, and accents such as Indian English.

So the language can settle it. A German or Hindi ad points to Kling 4.0 once it's live. An Arabic or Thai ad points to Seedance 2.5. For English, Spanish, Japanese or Korean, both list support, so test your own script.

Which costs less per second?

At 1080p on the makers' APIs, Kling costs less: $0.14 to $0.168 a second with audio. Seedance 2.0 costs about $0.37 and Seedance 2.5 about $0.57. At 720p, Seedance 2.0 Mini is the cheapest option at about $0.08 a second.

What one 10-second, 16:9 clip costs at those rates:

One 10-second clip on…Published API cost, 1 Oct 2026
Seedance 2.0 Mini, 720pabout $0.80
Kling 3.0 Turbo, 720p$1.12
Seedance 2.0 Fast, 720pabout $1.20
Kling 3.0 with audio, 720p$1.26
Kling 3.0 Turbo, 1080p$1.40
Kling 3.0 with audio, 1080p$1.68
Seedance 2.0, 1080pabout $3.70
Kling 3.0, 4K$4.20
Seedance 2.5, 1080pabout $5.69
Seedance 2.0, 4Kabout $7.80

BytePlus bills by tokens, so its Seedance prices are its own estimates for a clip without video input. Adding a reference video raises the price. Kling's prices are its list price per second, before package discounts. Kling hasn't published API prices for Kling 4.0 yet.

Testing it yourself? Give both models the same prompt, shape, resolution and length, with audio on. Try a product shot from a still, a two-person dialogue, fast motion and a line in your target language.

Where is Seedance better?

  • Length today. 30-second clips now; Kling's arrive with 4.0.
  • Many references. Up to 50 files per run on 2.5.
  • Some languages. Arabic, Thai, Indonesian, Malay and Vietnamese are listed for Seedance, not Kling.
  • Public votes. About 120 points above Kling 3.0 Pro on Arena's image-to-video board.

Where is Kling better?

  • 4K. Native 4K in the app, and a lower 4K price on the API.
  • Price at 1080p. Less than half Seedance 2.0's API price per second.
  • Shot-by-shot control. Set the length, framing and camera of each shot.
  • Reusable characters. Build one from a short video, voice included.

Decision map: pick Seedance for a 30-second clip today, many reference files, Arabic or Thai dialogue, or realistic motion; pick Kling for 4K, a lower API price at 1080p, shot-by-shot control, or German, French or Hindi dialogue

Is there a third option?

Synthesys is an AI video agent that replaces traditional video production end to end. Its Studio runs four Seedance models (2.5, 2.0, 2.0 Fast and 2.0 Mini), with the credit price shown before you generate. It doesn't run Kling's video models, so go to Kling directly for 4K or its shot controls. If the clip is one scene in a longer ad, the AI video agent plans the scenes and renders nothing until you approve.

Which would we pick, and for what?

For most ads with people in them, we'd start with Seedance 2.0, and move to 2.5 when the clip needs 20 or 30 seconds. We'd use Kling 3.0 for a 4K hero shot, or a scripted scene where every cut has to land where we planned it.

  • A 15-second product or UGC ad: Seedance 2.0. Draft on 2.0 Fast or Mini, then render the keeper on 2.0.
  • A dialogue scene: Seedance when the acting matters most. Kling when you need exact shot lengths and cut points.
  • A 30-second story in one take: Seedance 2.5 today. We'll look at Kling 4.0 again once it's fully live.
  • A 4K hero shot for a big screen: Kling 3.0.

If we had to name one thing each does better: Seedance makes people move like people, whether they're eating, fighting or skating. Kling does what the shot list says, cut for cut.
